Considering all the things you can do to reduce weight in these cars, wanted to see if anyone has installed carbon fiber bodies to replace stock fiberglass and plastic?

There are companies out there that make full carbon fiber body kits for the Vettes yet it is very very expensive to do this!! However if the $ part is of no concern to you then I would do it, and you should shave off some good weight.

These are the guys.

I'm using carbon fiber body panels in the road race track only car I'm building(front part of the car). The Z11 kit is being used as a base(with the front qtr panels in carbon) plus a carbon front nose/splitter, carbon air intake undertray and carbon world challenge vented hood. Carbon fiber is much stiffer than fiberglass and is a superior material to use when road racing at higher speeds since it doesn't change shape as readily under wind load. The rear wing of the car will also be carbon fiber. I'm not going to the expense of putting in carbon fiber rear qtr panels as I'm most interested in getting weight out of the front. The total difference in weight between a carbon fiber body kit and oem is about 75 lbs.

That is for sure!! That thing is Sick!! Aren't these cars light enough? Unless you are doing mad racing, then I can see where getting a little lighter would make a difference. JMO:cheers:

That's the body going on my track car along with the world challenge hood and rear wing. Should be a mean looking beast.

I'm hoping to get my car from it's current weight of 3,150 lbs to around 2,500 lbs.

The 427 NA engine that's going in should produce about 750-800 hp at the crank. That's not a bad hp/weight ratio.
