I have a 91 Vert. My car has been off the road since Nov. cause of starter problems. Now that its running and on the road again  now I have a problem with the alarm. There is a Viper installed from the previous owner, but I don't think this is the problem. Lets just talk about the factory installed alarm. If I unlock the door with the key, the alarm goes off. I can't shut it off until the key is in the ignition. Isn't it not supposed to go off when I unlock with the key? Before November, I was able to lock and unlock using the key FOB from the Viper. No problems. Now, I cannot lock using the key FOB either. It doesn't engage. I have to do it manually inside with the power locks, (I do notice I have to play with it though) I do have the VATS bypass in my ignition also. Is there a problem with that lock or the VATS system? if it is the VATS, anyone in the area of Central Jersey (Jackson, Freehold) I can go to?

First of all I think that it was installed wrong just because it is to my understanding that only one alarm system should be working at once. I think there are probably some wires that are wrong. You should be able to open the doors with the key and not have the alarm go off. I would disengage one or the other if I were you.

The factory security should disarm with the viper system there are several ways to do it, but usually there is a negative trigger in the car to disarm it. the vats has nothing to do with the door lock at least from the alarm standpoint the pypass for that is a relay wired to the white wires in an orange harness, using the proper value resistor to simulate the pellet in the key. It sounds like the key cylinder in the doors may have some dirt or corrision on the conector on the back. that conector is part of the factory dis arm and will disarm the alarm when the cylinder closes the contact
