Non-original Corvette Master Cylinders (http://www.zip-corvette.com/Zip/dept.asp?dept_id=4009) stick out like a sore thumb. Just pop the hood on any 1968-1982 Corvette, and you can very easily identify the originality of your master cylinder through small, yet important details. If you’re not sure you have a correct master cylinder, consider researching through a 1968-1982 Corvette NCRS Judging Manual (http://www.zip-corvette.com/Zip/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=301). The NCRS manuals are full of information that will break down each item on your Corvette.
If your Corvette’s brake system is in need for a new master cylinder, you have several choices through Zip Corvette. First, you can rebuild your Corvette’s master cylinder (http://www.zip-corvette.com/Zip/dept.asp?dept_id=4009) with a rebuild kit. These kits include all the seals, boots, clips and piston required for overhauling your original cylinder. If rebuilding your unit is not an option, consider purchasing a new master cylinder. Zip has master cylinders that are great replacements (a little cheaper) or 100% correct and will pass NCRS judging standards.
For years, 100% correct master cylinders were only found in the junk yards and required rebuild. Just recently, a new reproduction master cylinder became available. These master cylinders are manufactured to exact factory specifications. These units include the original style casting with casting number, factory exterior paint coating, a reproduction cap, stamped code (PG or DC) denoting manual or power brakes, and dual brake bleeders as applicable. Each Master Cylinder from 1968-1976 is equipped with the correct 1″ bore for standard brakes; 1 1/8″ bore for power brake cars. All 77-82 Corvette Master Cylinders (http://www.zip-corvette.com/Zip/dept.asp?dept_id=4009) come with a 1 1/8″ bore, as this size became the standard. To top it off each master cylinder includes a reproduction twin dome cap with correct color and lettering for complete authenticity.
