I have a 2007 Z06 and was wondering is it possible to convert to automatic transmission? I'm sure it might be a nightmare but is it possible?

Why in the would you want to do that. An automatic takes all the fun out of having a sports car IMO.

Well, that is the one thing that alot of people that buy the Z want is the auto. But I highly doubt that that is going to happen for the Z!!

I hope they never put an automatic in the Z06. A paddle shift maybe but I still perfer manual.

I would say that GM will someday do it because there are alot of people that would like to see a Z06 in an auto and with the sales of GM not soo hot, I think we will see it soon.

It is definately possible, but there are several issues to be worked out. Phisycally bolting in the required parts is one thing, but programming would be another issue. We could do it, but it wouldn't be cheap.

Do #3 and I will help you with the hastle of having a c6 that runs but doesn't drive and a bunch of the corisponding Z06 parts taking up space in your garage, I'd even be so nice as to take all the stuff off your hands free of charge, that's rite I said absolutly FREE OF ANY CHARGE.
In my dreams rite, I know but it was worth a shot. :smack:

Yes it's possible. I know a guy on another forum that has a C6Z and did the mod. He also slapped a S/C on it, had belt problems with it and yanked it off. Then he took it to Lingenfelter and had their 600+ HP kit installed.
Then he had huge problems with the car, almost sold the car because of it. The car won't shift properly, and the speedo indicates 130 MPH when he's only going 60MPH. The car won't shift out of second gear. BIG time problems and this mod was professionally installed, and even THEY can't figure out the problem.
Now he can't even drive the car. This is a true story...you can read the entire story yourself on...www.ls1.com

I would NOT consider doing the swap.

Why not? How many high end european sports cars like, Ferrarri, Lambo, Mazaratti, MB, Aston Martin, and so on, have a manual shift? The currant six speed paddle shift available in other Corvette's would be great.

I feel quite sure you can do the conversion with any competent mechanic. The Z06 has more power and I would think you would want to upgrade the parts in a stock automatic. I would think you would probably have to change the cooling system for the trans oil too.
I think that is what you were asking. I did notice that some people thought you were asking for their opinion on changing the transmission. It's your money and you can put a six cylinder with a two speed automatic in it if you want. It never ceases to amaze me how some people can completely ignore the question to get a chance to post their opinion. ( Just like I am doing now lol) If I could buy a FRC with an auto I would have one.
Good luck:burnout:

I think I would trade it for a Gran Sport with an automatic - I'm betting that for the money you spend on the conversion, you could do that - then, getting form 430 hp to 505 hp on the GS would be easier to deal with if you have to have it. There are reasons GM doesn't put the paddle shifters on cars with 3.42 rear gearing. All drivetrain components have to be able to handle the higher hp. If you get the GS with paddle shifters I'd still be hesitant to up the HP too much. But that's just me. I like to have confidence my car will stay together.

If you weren't on the wrong coast i'd tell you to check out my tuner as they have done this many times in c5 z's for drag racing purposes! I have owned a regular (paddle shifting) c6 and now a z06 and i honestly miss having the paddle shifters when it comes to racing from a dig! Nothing like shifting through the gears on the turns though! :sm_party:

Obviously you don't have a 6-speed paddle-shift in your vette.
This was my greatest mistake I made when I bought my 08 new. The tranny shifts like it should be in a family car.
I was always under the belief that GM automatics couldn't hold up to the HP and abuse that the z06 and ZR1 could generate.
However, the new CTS-V w/556 hp is available with a 6-speed auto so I guess my thoughts are no longer valid.
Bottom line, get the manual!
