Hello! My name is Jay and I am employed by HP Tuners. HP Tuners has signed on as a Vendor with Smokin Vette!

I won't speak with regard to Hypertech. However, if you like to do things yourself, or want to monitor your vehicle after someone does it for you, then the HP Tuners product is designed for you.

HP Tuners offers:

VCM Scanner Standard
VCM Scanner Pro
VCM Suite Standard with 8 GM Credits
VCM Suite Pro with 8 GM Credits

Since you want to tune yourself, I would steer you towards the Suites. HP Tuners VCM Suite is not a traditional “handheld” device. It is much more powerful! HP Tuners is a software suite that consists of a data logger, and a file editor. This puts the control in your hands! HP Tuners products do not come supplied with a tune; however, you will have access to a repository of tunes that you can reference that are uploaded by HP Tuners customers.

HP Tuners offers two MPVI Interfaces, the Standard, and the Professional. Where the hardware differs is the PRO offers stand-alone data logging that allows you to scan the car without hauling a computer along with you. The PRO also accepts 0-5V inputs so that you can log air fuel ratio (or other information) along with your OBD2 parameters. With that said, I would seriously consider the MPVI Pro if you have (or are planning) any sort of modifications to the vehicle(s) you will be working with. This will allow you to data log your Air Fuel Ratio etc. and display it right along with the parameters logged with HP Tuners Scanner. This eliminates the need to analyze data from a separate software system, or worse yet, write down the AFR at certain RPM and load points. If you will not be modifying the vehicle, the Standard will likely be sufficient.

With regard to the ease of use, there is a great deal of tuning information on the HP Tuners forum and I am certain that more and more information will be available at Smokin Vette as well! Additionally, there is training available for the HP Tuners product line, which is offered by several companies. Finally, it’s possible to purchase a HP Tuners VCM Suite along with a tune from an HP Tuners Reseller/Tuner. This way you have a professionally tuned baseline to start from!

In addition to posting here, please feel free to email me directly at jay at hptuners dot com (I don't have enough posts to list email yet) if you have any questions. Emails are likely to offer you the fastest response time.

Welcome Aboard Jay!

Yep, DTS uses HP Tuners exclusively. Great stuff! Wouldn't tune without it. :thumbsup3:
