I have a 2002 thats a daily driver and is creeping up over 100,000 miles. I was thinking either rebuild the existing motor and then i saw some pretty good pricing on LS3 motors. This should line up ok right? Any head aches I need to be aware of? Thanks

Sure it will. BUT, there will need to be a reluctor ring change. This means that the crankshaft needs to come out. Then the cam gear needs to be a 2005 ls2 unit. I just put one in my 2001 SS camaro, and am hoping to use one in my 99 vette. Not much different than an ls2 conversion. I.E. knock sensor relocation, cam sensor wiring. Best of luck to you on this.

Is the LS2 conversion easier? Just toss a cam in the LS2 and your good to go? Whats your 2 cents?

The answer is one that is VERY specific..... A 2005 ls2 will go into a C5 with ease. A motor mount needs to be notched, knock sensors put on the side of the block, the map sensor wires need to be extended, and the cam sensor wires need extensions. in 2006, the cam gear got changed and the crank ring got changed. These will not be able to be read by the earlier PCM. 2007, the cam started to be retained by a single bolt instead of 3 bolts. So, for the LS3 all of these things have to be changed.

And its only a 35 hp difference between the LS3 and LS2 engine correct? So better off going with the LS2, putting a mild cam, port and polishing a few things, perhaps some heads and your sitting tall!

Holidays over so now back in the saddle with this project. What do you think a shop will charge for something like this customization? I'm trying to figure is the car worth it or should I just get a lower mileage C5 or possibly a newer Vette like a C6??

you can do a LS7 like I am doing

I know of many vettes over 100K miles so you probably still have time to decide what works for you.
