My friend was telling me that I would have to do this in order for a big brake kit to fit and not rub, is this a fact and how much do you have to grind off?

I have not ever heard of having to shave the control arms. I did however have to shave a little off the calipers on the rear when I went with the larger 14" Baer, 2 piece rotors. So that they would clear the CCW's that I have, and the CCW's are 19" in the rear too. If you want to know more about that let me know. Or someone else may chime in as well.

I have heard of that too. The leading edge of the control arm will rub on the rotor if you don't shave a good portion of it down.

Hmmm, I didn't know this, so do you have to do this when you bump up to Z06 brakes? Or just the aftermarket big brake kits?

How much did you have to grind off the rear caliper to get them to fit ? I am in the process of up grading to the Baer 2 piece and was wondering about the fit. John from CCW said i needed spacers but he did not recommend them as the wheel would stick out.
Any help would be appreciated.

"The leading edge of the control arm will rub on the rotor if you don't shave a good portion of it down."

That is dangerous stuff. I would never cut, grind or shave metal off of a control arm. Have you ever tried to control a car at 80mph when a control arm breaks?

It was not much that needed to come off, and it was actually only the nub that stuck out from the main body of the rear caliper(s), it would have hit by about 1/8" (along midpoint on each leg of the wheel) and I took off about 1/4" or a hair more, the space between the two now is about 1/8" maybe a hair more. (between the caliper closest point to the wheel.)

I'll add a few pics in a bit as I need to find them.

Where the red arrow is pointing is where there used to be a little nub of a piece sticking out a little, I'll try and get some better shots of before and after grinding.

Thanks for the pics. I am concerned about weakening the caliper by grinding off the nib. did you notice any weakness after grinding the caliper? What about the wheel weights?

Well if you buy these custom wheels don't they make them to the specs of your brake set up so you don't have to do any "custom" work to make everything fit?

YES BUT IF YOU HAVE THE WHEELS ALREADY THEN YOU HAVE TO MODIFY THE CALIPERS OR USE WHEEL SPACERS.

:iagree: Now couldn't you have used some wheel spacers?

I did'nt want to use the spacers. I also looked at the issue at hand and have made and fabrocated a lot of things in my life, and I am a certified welder, so I think that I can see if something was taking away from its integrity or not. I shaved a very little bit of the caliper away, it looked like it was basically only a mold holding spot more then anything, so basically I cleaned up the excess mold holding portion and streamlined the caliper as it probably should have been from new. There is plenty of clearance now, and no spacer needed, with the 305/30/19's on the rear already I do not need the wheel sticking out any further then it already is.
