I'm looking at getting a new head unit/nav unit and would like to get a back up camera set up on it. I was wondering those who have done a backup cam, how did you run the wire from the camera up to the head unit? Did you wind up having to drill to get inside the car? I haven't started obviously, and just researching right now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Buddy of mine installed a back up camera on his '05 and he drilled a 3/8" hole and used a rubber grommet also to make a good seal.

Not sure what kind of camera or how good they are but I have seen them molded into a license plate frame.

Crutchfield is actually offering a deal right now where if you buy a new DVD/GPS unit, a backup camera comes with it as well as the dash kit. I installed one before on a 2008 Z06 for a customer and you have to drill a tiny hole for the wire to go through and thats it if you want to go the simple route....if you want to go the custom route, I've actually had some of my customers have me cut out a part of the back fiberglass and custom mold the camera in....it actually looks pretty clean

If you want to keep it simple and cheap...Wal-Mart and Sam's Club (as well as several places in the web) sell a wireless backup camera system for about $100. The wireless camera is built into a black small frame that mounts on the top of your rear license plate. The small monitor is plugged into the cigarette lighter.

It is decent and we put one on our 30' motor home and the signal reaches from the back to the front with no issue. No drilling and no wires, just not as cool looking as the unit Crutchfield is selling.

Hey,
I am in the same situation too. I am searching.
I will let you know what I found out. It will knock your socks up.

I was looking for something that gives me, blue tooth connection, IPod connection and backup camera, and guess what I found ?

I wont advertise for the site/shop but I will give you the link, it may help you if you have XM channel on your stereo, as although I have the touch screen, I do not have the XM option as my car was not distend to the US market but more like overseas.

Enough talk, the link is :
OOPS....CANNOT post links until I have 10 posts.... funny.... I will send you the link through PM.

Enjoy and let me know if I can be of further help.
Regards,
Khalid
