: Performance Tune?

I have just ordered a Hurricane air intake, and currently have a cam, headers and borla exhaust once the intake gets here I was thinking about getting either a hand held tuner or possibly a performance tune? I was reading on the Preditor and see that this I can do myself. A friend was telling me I may be able to get more power from a "actual tune" at a performance shop?

The Preditor is nice, I have a few friends that have used it. However, I know a couple other Vette owners that have almost the same mods yet got a noticable difference from a pro-tune. The only downside is that it is higher in the price department! Good luck either way! P.S. Nice Mods, must be pretty loud!:D

We installed Diablo Preditor on the Silver 05 and didn't noticed a large gain from it, however was able to see a nice difference in the shifting points. I'm not certain whether these changes will be the same for you as I believe the computers in the C6 are different from that of a C5. What I did want to share with you is that I have spoken to a couple of performance shops and have been told that a performance tune at a shop is better than a hand held for most people. At a shop they can factor in the tune mods that you have and "fine tune" it to your car set up.

I will say though the Preditor was easy to us and set up. There are places also like BreathlessPerformance (think they are out of Florida) who you can send your cars computer to and they will custom program based on what mods you share with them.

if you already have a cam ect... i would go with a custom tune by a performance shop because if you use a predator or anything like that you will ruin the tune the shop already gave you and that could be bad for your engine. if you want a few more hp get a custom tune by a local performance shop its a lot safer and better tune.

Did you buy the car with the H/C already done? I can't believe it wasn't tuned after THAT upgrade!!! Also is your exhaust a cat-back or the whole shabang?

The Prediator isn't going to do much at all for you with those mods! Get a proffesional tune and an "in car" one at that! You'll be floored by the results, assuming it hasn't been tuned already...

Absolutely agree with tstar, with that engine work some sort of custom tuning must have been done or the car would be running poor. With that said getting a professional tune will prove valiable compared to Prediator tuner!

Thanks for the 411, the car runs great so it must have been tuned regarding the exhaust I was told when I bought it that it had aftermarket headers on it (don't know - its very loud), the exhaust is borla axle back system?

With all this would you recommend that I get an additional tune after the air intake added or will this be not worth it at this point? Thanks again:D

If your car is runnig good, i.e. tuned properly for your Mods. then I wouldn't waste money on another tune for the intake upgrade.

I would however force the PCM to relearn your new intake;

Insert key into ignition and turn to the "On" position but, DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
Pop open the engine fuse block box cover and remove the two 10amp fuses from position numbers 16 & 23.
Your DIC will now display "check" messages for ABS, etc...
Turn ignition to the "Off" position.
Re-insert both 10amp fuses for positions 16 & 23.
Start your engine
Allow engine coolant temperature to reach a minimum of 176 degrees F and run at this minimum temperature for at least 5 minutes.
Shut down engine
Let rest for a minimum of 30 seconds.
Restart engine - check for DIC error codes (there should be none).
Drive car for a minimum of 30 miles at varying rpm settings and speeds. PCM will now re-learn and adjust for the new air flow and air temperature at the intake.
