Last night after returning from dinner with the family I pulled into the garage and set the parking brake. I noticed that the handle, while still clicking (making the racheting noise), there was less tension in the feel. Also, the car still rolls; that is, the handle ratchets back into position, the light illuminates on the dash, but the brake itself IS NOT engaging as the car still moves.
Perhaps the lever was pulled to far or too forcefully? Where do I start?

Try the self adjust procedure first, roll in reverse at 6 Mph and quickly pull up the handle to adjust the parking brake shoes. Do this several times...
If you still have problems with it holding, go through this doc;
Nevermind it's too big, pop me your EMail address and I'll send it to you.

So, just roll in reverse at 6 mph and pull the lever up and continue to roll?

Thanks for the response, by the way. I plan on fixing this thing in the morning if I can and I will definitely be checking in with you guys just in case. Thanks again, man.

Right, you may have to repeat that a few times until the shoes tighten enough. When I adjusted mine it actually clunked and on the third rollback the brakes locked up on a hard yank, it's been perfect ever since.
Now this assuming that everything is moving freely, if there's a problem that document I sent you should fix it!
Let us know how it goes...

THats an interesting method that I have never heard of! Always learning new stuff, now if that ever happens to me I will know what to do! Thanks.

Well I went to the local elementary threw it into reverse, accelerated to 6 MPH until I heard th "POP!":rolleyes:
Low and behold the emergency brake now works for the most part. It seems to be working fine in reverse; that is with the E-Brake engaged the car will not roll backwards, however the car will roll forward? :confused:
Presently, when it rolls forward it makes a rubbing noise (imagine the sound of a baritone or a large brass instrument) as if it is trying to engage, but the weight of the car is allowing it (the car) to roll forward.
So it seems as though, maybe I should go roll a few more times in reverse? While I heard the "POP!" it never yanked and stopped me. So, essentially the emergency brake still is not working, technically.
I appologize in advance if I am not making sense to any of our members!
What do you all think?

That sounds like everything is working and you just need to do the adjustment (rollback) a few more times. I did it until the E-brake pratically locked up.
It's impossible to do it too many times but I'm not sure how slack the adjustment takes up on each rollback, I'm betting not much hence the need to repeat it if it's pretty loose...
