We have been planning on replacing the carpet in my 88…it is a bright red, but on closer inspection I’m wondering if it is necessary.
Comparing the under dash area with the rest of the car, it appears that NONE of the carpet is faded. The only worn spots are a small area on the cargo area floor and a small strip about 3 inches long on each sill. The front mats are shot, so I was thinking of just buying the 3-piece carpet set and a pair of sill plates.
Now, here’s the questions...
#1…In the catalogue photo’s I’ve seen, it looks like the C-4 sill plates run from about the front of the seat forward…the worn area’s on my sills are both farther back on the sill, about even with the middle of the seat. Does anyone know if there are longer sill plates available that would cover that area?
#2…there are a few areas that I can see are a little dirty. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with products that will do a good job of cleaning that kind of carpet while it is installed in the car.
In my truck, which I bought used, the carpet was very dirty and the previous owner had been a smoker. We took the water hose inside..:wtf: ..dumped about 3 or 4 large pails of soapy water on the floor..:wtf: .. scrubbed with brushes and then rinsed with the hose. :crazy:We finished the job off by using my shop vac to wet vacuum as much of the water out as we could, then put a big fan in the truck, left the doors open and in a couple days the interior was dried out nice….I don’t think I’ll try that with the Vette though….

On mine i took the time and pulled it all out to clean it (youd be suprised how nasty the underside of the carpet can get!!). First i used some Simple Green degreaser, then i ran out and used Tide detergent and water and it worked GREAT!!. As far as cleaning it while it's in it i've heard some good things about Armour All carpet foams, but i havn't used them myself.

Ecklers lists door sill carpet, in red, which are the full length of the opening, for 1988 at $ 80.00 a pair. Carpet mats are available from $ 58 to $ 115 a pair. Just go to their site, select C4, type in keyword carpet and you will find them.

As far as cleaning the carpet, my 1991 Corvette carpet is standard cut pile nylon. Any decent carpet cleaner available at any auto parts store should work. Just because it is Corvette does not mean the carpet is special.

That is just what I need...any idea who made 'em? Is the one on the drivers side the same, I know the emergency brake handle don't leave a lot of room?

Corvette America also sells them. The Acrylic covers cost around $55.00 a pair and the steel ones run around $60.00 to $ 65.00.

Thanks...that's another option. I had looked for those pieces seperatly, but it seems they are not common except if sold in the sets....

I just found a pair of Stainless ones on Mid-America as well, they show them in the on line catalogue but not in the paper catalogue. Guess now I got to remember to look BOTH places..although Mid-Americas are a bit pricey..$139.99...

Hey Mongo, New or shampooed, spray a little 'Scotch Gard' on the carpet. Makes it a little easier to clean, but also keeps it from attracting the crap that likes to stick to carpet.
