I was wondering if anyone might have some solutions regarding a suspected fuel problem. I intermittently experience a traction control warning light and at the same time I receive a reduced engine power alert. The car slows down and will not accelerate over 30 MPH. If I shut down the engine and wait for 20 seconds and then restart it runs fine for 15 to 20 miles and then I begin the ritual all over again. I replaced the fuel filter but it didn't stop the problem.

Thanks

OF the sounds of it I would guess that your fuel pump might be taking a vacation and I would get it checked out. Someone can do a test and see what kind of power is coming into your pump and what it is overall doing. This is all the ".02" that I can give you! I hope you get it fixed, let me know what happens!!

What codes are you throwing and have you done any mods to the car?? Is your fuel gauge behaving erratically?

The reduced power mode is probably NOT a fuel related problem at all. Definetly pull the codes and see what it has to say! Anything weird happens on vettes now, the first thing I do is check my battery connections. Seriously, the number one problem when my car starts to throw codes is because of the battery. Which is why I'm going to Optima as soon as I can afford it! But pull those codes before you do anything else, and post them up here. There's plenty of knowledge on this board to point you in the right direction!

Thanks to everyone for responding: I'm not mechanically astute on any car built after 1961 and the computer world is somewhat alien to me but I had a friend retrive some codes from the car's computer and the solution is vague. I thought may be I could repair it myself but I'm now wondering. "What happened to the good old days when I could climb in with the engine with only an open end wrench in hand?"

The solution states it is the APP, Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. It says that if two or more DTC's are set involving more than one APP sensor, this DTC will send the Reduced Engine Power Message.

The solution also includes several categories: 1. Condition for setting the DTC 2. Action taken when the DTC sets 3. Conditions for clearing the MIL/DTC 4. Diagnositc aids. Of course all this stuff makes no sense to me.

The next category is removal procedure.

Can anyone tell me what the I.P lower insulator panel is? Next it states that I should disconnect the accelerator pedal sensor module electrical connector and then the accelerator pedal.

I assume these DTC's or the myriad of sensors, from what I gather there must be 3, are attached to the accelerator pedal. Again, I assume this entire module is to be discarded and replaced because I can't understand how one would tell which of the three sensors are bad, if indeed there are three?

I know this is getting complicated. As a novice it might be best for the kids to not eat for a few months and for me to take the car to a Chev dealer (?) If it was a matter of discarding some all inclusive module that might something that I would attempt.

DTC = Diognostic Trouble Code

I believe the IP lower insulator panel is the driver's knee bolster. The interior colored dash panel that bolts under the steering column.

As you probably already know our accelerator is fly-by-wire so there is no mechanical connection between the gas pedal and the throttle body. Instead two sensor/accuators are used, the gas pedal one relays pedal travel info to the throttle body one, that in trun opens and closes the throttle body accordingly.

I think from what you are saying, the gas pedal sensor has gone bad. But I would like a list of the codes you threw please....
