I will be changing the oil in my Vett for the frist time since I have owned it and I was wondering what type of oil should I use and filter. I was thinking of using Mobil1 5w-30 and using a K&N filter with this work? Also I was planning on using this stuff that is made by GUNK to flush out my oil system since I dont know if the old man that had it before me used full Synth. and the guys at the shop told me to use that stuff so that the motor gets a good cleaning, what do you all think?:woowoo:

:thumbsup3: ON the oil and filter not sure about the gunk stuff. So that is to clean out the engine of synthetic when going to regular oil?

You have a 93 LT1 ?? Use Mobile One 5W30 and I prefer the Mobile One filter as well. There should be no reason to flush anything as synthetic oil does not leave any gunk in the engine.

Thanks all so far for the info. The guy only told me that since I did not know what type of oil was in it already. The old man that had it before me did not give me to much history on her. So would it hurt to use the GUNK stuff? The man at the store did tell me that they use that stuff to go form regular oil to full synth. so should I use it and would it hurt? Thanks all.

Don't knock us old guys, we know what's going on, just can't remember it for long. I would not do a flush, just a waste of time and money.

somtimes when you do an engine flush ya find oil leaks also when going from regular oil to a syn oil you can find leaks because it is much thiner but i use royal purple and it is also a good racing oil but its still all about changing the oil at the right time:burnout:

Use fully synthetic, and there will not be any leaks created by that oil, it's one of the mystery mythes in the automotive industry that we have been taught to avoid.
Fully synthetics have the same type of seal swelling ingredients as mineral oil.
Mobil one is the prefered brand and has all the ingredients to help protect your engines componants under all driving conditions.
Change every 7,500 miles, no sooner required for road driving conditions.
You can also go any website regarding oils and spend countless hours learning about specific oils.

I do not think it needs to be flushed, I would use mobil 1. I like 10-30, just because summers get pretty hot in Texas and even 10-30 does not seem that thick to me.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and a K&N filter. Mobil 1 is what the General recommends. Who am I to disagree?

Mobil1 Oil, Mobil1 Filter, the best choice, :iagree: Flushing engine  may cause problems, depending on mileage and how car was taken care of by previous owner. :beer-fresh:

.

Old myth or not I have seen it happen to many times to say its not true. Sometimes, in some motors going to synthetic from dino oil will make your motor leak oil..It has nothing to do with it being a thinner oil. The techs at Mobil say it has to do with the fact that dino oil builds up deposits in your motor, when you switch over to synthetic which has a large amount of cleaners in it, it can clean away those deposits and cause a leak at that point on the gasket. This I got directly from a tech at Mobil Oil company..
