 Can anybody help me with this problem? My 73 vette is a 454 and runs real strong except the guy that I bought it from was not into using it on the street. He was building it for off road.
As soon as the battery is hooked up I get positive power to the whole car without the key in the ignition. I thought it was because of the 77 sterring column he had in there. But I have replaced it with a 72 tilt-tele and the problem remains. Additionally I can' t get the heater or the wipers to work. I pulled the motors and bench tested them and the work fine. I would really appreciate any feedback. Especially on the battery problem. Thanks VETTESRULE!

Have you checked the fuse panel? Perhaps the "always live" positive feed is connected there rather than the one coming from the ignition? This same fuse issue may be the root of your problems with your heater and wipers.

Hope this helps!

how far did the guy you bought the car go? As far as off-road/racing

Is the fuse panel still functional? If you follow the positive battery cable, does it branch off anywhere?

Does the alternator have one wire coming off it - where does it lead?

could be lots of work~~
