: Zooming Fun with Gregs Vette
smokinvette 01-03-2009, 05:20 PM Again these shots were done with Nikon D90 18-105mm with polarized filter in manual mode, I had the shutter set at 1/20 second and aperture of f20 and white balance set to cloudy. One of the instruction video's I was watching last night talked about manually zooming the lens during exposure and you can see below it makes a interesting shot. The first one is a normal shot followed by 2 photos playing around with the zoom.

LOL... I'm learning and so I'm repeating what and how I did things not only for others reference, but also mine in the future! A lot of this is new to me, and typing out what I did helps the techniques sink in more! :thumbsup3:

Hey Brent, I am suprised you could even spell the word TECHNICAL. OU fan:rofl:
MarksBlueMeanie 01-04-2009, 04:06 PM Here's another trick you can try. You will want to do the when it is dark outside. Get someone in the car and have it ready to drive. Have your camera on a tripod and have the shutter speed set to the longest possible exposure that you can have it at while still be exposed properly. Closing your aperture will allow you to have a longer shutter speed. Halfway through the exposure have the driver drive the car out of view as fast as possible. This will give you a ghost apperance of your car.
I've been testing this out. It seems wo work very well. I haven't tried it with my car yet.
I actually hardly ever take any serious pictures with my D300. I usually leave the serious photography to my film camera for now. :ack2:
Here is a sample that I did. The aperture is set to F22 and the shutter speed is at 30 seconds. The only light in the room is my computer screen. The room is otherwise pitch black.

Awesome idea with the car! Actually I was tooling around with camera set on tripod, f22 and I believe the shutter was at 20 secs first pic and the 2nd at 30 secs, I had it on self timer, lights off... I would hit the shutter to activate the timer release... walk in front of it with my cell phone open (dim light showing) and make figure "8's" in the air... it was pretty cool to play around with this.
I've been messing around with this "ghostly" feature with lights on and setting a super slow shutter speed. Good fun though.
MarksBlueMeanie 01-04-2009, 04:37 PM Yeah... Light graffiti is very cool. I had a guy in my photography class do it with film in black and white. It turned out awesome.

Ed, I surprised you did not edit my post to change the spelling.
Besides you have my university confused with some of the institutions of higher (or in some cases lower) education i.e., texas, OK State, texas A&M, etc.
MarksBlueMeanie 01-04-2009, 05:03 PM Ok.... You made me do it... I pulled the ol' camera out and worked on my light graffiti.

MarksBlueMeanie 01-04-2009, 10:16 PM ha ha ha! Very cool, are you still taking photography class?
Yep... Im still in college. Photography is currently my major, but I'm planning on changing it to one of my minors at the end of this coming semester. I've only been doing photography for about a year and a half now. Most of which has been film and not digital.
Average Joe 01-05-2009, 08:43 PM 2nd photo looks interesting, I like :thumbsup3:
