Can anyone help me with this question? I have a "97" C5 and I want to know if I can add a HUD to it? I found one in working condition and it was cheap. Has anyone else done this?

I did it to mine. The hardest part is mentally cutting up the dash. I believe that sice you have a 97, you will have to upgrade to a newer gauge cluster that will work with the HUD. I don't remember if it's 99's and up or 01's up for the new cluster.

Yes you can do it, it is a bit tricky but it has been done many times and I would like to get it done this year. I drove my buddies C6 and it had the HUD and I loved it, now I am not going to get rid of my C5 and buy a C6 just to have it so I will be putting one in this year.

Sounds like a big job, for some reason I thought all Vettes came with HUD? Must not

Right, also you don't HAVE to have the special HUD windshield... it'll look fine without one!

The ESV boys are adding HUD to my 99 when we visit them in MO in April. We had to get a compatible cluster cause mine was not compatible and they are gonna cut my dash :willy_nilly: I'm not worried----really---there is a good reason I have no finger nails left---I just haven't thought of it yet

Your 99 cluster should be compatible, it was an option in 99!! The HUD uses a small slip-fit ribbon connector that is located at the very top at the rear of the cluster....

BUT if you already got one, give me your old one!

I have a 98 convertible and would like to add the HUD as well. I prefer to have a professional do the installation. I live in South Jersey, about 15 minutes from Philadelphia. Anyone know of a place in my area where I could get this done...

Member PaceThis on corvetteforum has kits with & without clusters. He also has a video showing how to do the install. 99 models may not have HUD enabled cluster. Some early 99 models did not have the cluster with the socket.

I had to take my new cluster to the dealer & they sent it in to have my mileage programmed in.

The hardest part to find is the cable from the cluster to the switch.

I used the joshkerr instructions mentioned previously with the exception of cutting out the dash pad all the way to the front and using JBweld to fasten the bezel to the dash pad. I used trim screws into the bezel (there are hollow posts in the bezel for this) with a couple of washers to secure it to the pad. I also had to re-locate the airbag warning bulb as shown in the corvetteforum writeup.

On a DIY scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the most difficult, I would rate this a 2. More time consuming than difficult. It took me between 3 and 4 hours, but I was following the measure twice cut once method.
