Its been a week or so since driving my Z and got into a nice little cruise the morning and it felt like the car had some more power?! Nothing new done to it, perhaps I have just gotten used to driving the family car and jumping into the Z is just a night and day difference? Am I strange or have others experienced this?

they will all do this on a cool morning with low humidity and lower altitudes.Thats why all the old performance records were set at Fontana and not in Phoenix. Enjoy the cruising at low altitude...

Aside from temperature, and altitude, you will also notice a difference as your car/engine gets more broken in. I have seen differences of as much as 20 HP when dynoing the same car new, and again later with a few hundred miles on it.

Morning air is colder and engines run better/stronger. I like going for a drive in the mornings myself. Crisp air, less traffic, time to run!

Is there a way to cool the air to keep the car running like this during the day as well? Not sure if silly question, but why not? :D

There are aftermarket cold air kits available that do this, but the, whatever temp the outside air is, that is the coolest the engine will recieve. It's still going to be cooler than hot, underhood air.

Ed,
I thought that changing the thermostat (say to a 170) would allow the engine to run cooler, thus enabling higher HP when driven hard??

Not exactly, this will just allow the circulation to start earlier yet the fan is not going to be on until the computer sensor turns it on for the predetermined tempurature from the factory. Now if you get someone to reprogram your fan so that it will turn on sooner along with the lower thermo, this will allow the cooling process to start sooner in the temp range.

I notice this all the time in the mornings when I take any of my cars out. As everyone else has stated its the cold morning air that is the culprit. Thats why I love the morning drives the best!:burnout:

This is exactly right, we normally use a 160 t-stat in everything, and reprogram the fans to come on sooner, and stay on longer. This allows us to see a normal operating temp of 190 or so, even on hot summer days.
