Is there anything that can be sprayed on the wheels to make the brake dust not stick to it as much? Repel it? Might be a dumb question but thought I would ask. thanks

Hello and Thanks for the question!

Are the wheels on you Vette factory or aftermarket? Judging from the picture on your Avatar, it looks like you have the factory Z06 wheels. If the wheels have a factory clear coat or painted(Z06) finish, simply apply a coat of wax to help reduce brake dust from sticking. This adds protection to the wheels, similar to your the paint on your car. If the wheels are an aftermarket chrome surface, then you want to find a good metal polish that will add protection to the metal.

I hope this helps and please contact me with any additional questions!

Thanks again,

-Dale

Factory non chrome, well perfect thanks Adams for the help! One other question, do any of the bits you can get for drills work? If so how you keep them clean?

There are various types of wheel cleaning brushes that are used in conjunction with a drill. I have used many different brands and here are my thoughts:

The problems with those types of brushes is that they are not intended for use on delicate/expensive wheels, they can scratch easily and are not made of the best quality materials. Using these brushes with a drill can also be quite messy and at times ineffective. My recommendations is to always clean your wheels, especially on a Corvette, by hand.

Thanks again and please feel free to hit me up with any additional questions.

Great post, I have noticed brake dust on these cars builds up quickly.

I always wash my wheels good and try to put a paint sealant on them. I have heard that putting a Carnauba wax on them does not work good because the heat from the brakes melts the wax. The product Klasse All-In-One seems to work well. If you leave the brake dust on the wheels for long periods of time (especially with no kind of protection on the wheels) they will get pitted. Every once in a while I pull the wheels off my car and really give them a good cleaning along with my painted brake calipers.

I have seen it on ebay, www.autogeek.net and some other places. I'm sure if you did a google search on it you could find a lot of other places. The product comes from Germany. Besides acting as a good sealant it also has some very good cleaning ability which help getting all the brake dust off.

Great tip, with the amount of brake dust that can collect on these, we need all the help. Actually the wheels I hate to clean on my cars, all the spokes make it hard!

This past weekend I jacked up the car and did a good clean and wax job on all my wheels, takes some time but the wheels turned out incredible.

It makes a big difference. I'm always pulling my wheels off and detailing the wheels, wells and brake calipers.

Good tip, with a garage full of cars like that I'm sure you have detailing dialed in!

The best thing you can do to cut down on the break dust on your wheels is to get ceramic brakes. I've used ceramic brakes on past cars with aftermarket rims, they virtually elliminate the break dust all together. They also have great stopping power for street performance. They are a bit pricey about 80-120$ but it is well worth it keeping your wheels shinny. Also, you can get them with the back of the pad colored to match your callipers. Hope this helps.
