I'm embarassed to post this, but this morning was the first time I used my heater in car this year and when I turned it on it smelled so bad I shut it off and opened the windows! Is there a filter or something that needs to be changed?

I'm in the North East and mine smells a little if not used heat in a while, how long did you run it for? Try running it for 10 minutes or so, the bad smell should start go away.

Same here, every year heater always smells a little when first used.

I had a old car that would do that every time I turned the AC on first time of summer season and also when I turned the heat on first time for winter months. I think it has run a few minutes to "push" all the nasty's out!

My AC had an odor to it, dealer fixed it. Never had any problems with the heater.

I ran the car with the heater on and the windows opened for about 15 minutes and your right the smell is gone. Little things like this just bother the heck out of me. Appreciate the feedback boys! :p

In a seperate building or a barn ? because mice will find the smallest opening and enter looking for a nice place to build a nest, and since they don't have bathrooms , they just go on the floor in their home which is your cars heater etc. This smell can be almost impossible to get rid of . Even with dissassembly and extensive cleaning the smell is usually still bad when the car is closed up for any length of time.

Car is stored in garage, but never for any long period of time? I can't imagine mice getting time to build?
