Well to make a long story short.....

I was on my way back to work this afternoon and some guys in new rustang gt pulled next to me and wanted to race.

We take off, I go to second gear, watching him fall back in my door mirror. just before shifting to 3rd gear the car starts to sputter and miss, he catches up.

My question is, did I hit the rev limiter ??

And no I wasn't watching my RPM gauge as I was busy looking ahead of me.

Sounds like you hit the rev limiter. If you can wind it to 6K and it is smooth then all is good and you just bumped the rev limiter. Rev limiter cuts fuel via power to the fuel injector. Engine "misses" Mustang gains ground .. :(

How long did this happen for? If it was just a few seconds, then yes, just rev limiter. That kills these cars worse than anything in a race. I've done it twice and you can REALLY feel when it hits. It feels like someone put a rope out across the road and grabbed you. I've done it at the top of first and it killed the race for me (against a new GTO with the LS3 motor, not stock), and at the top of third at the end of the quarter mile right before the traps. So it does basically just suck. You HUD will throw a shift light, but it's almost impossible to see, so you gotta watch that tach! :D

If it stumbled only there at the top of a gear for a few seconds and didn't do anything else you should be okay. If it does it more often, or in the middle of accelerating then you need to worry about fuel system problems. Maybe you were running less than a 1/4 tank of gas? It doesn't sound like this is going to be a problem for you!

That's what I thought.... FREAKIN REV LIMITER !

I'm going to have to install an inconspicuous shift light somewhere. :o
