: Help!!! Wtf?
94vetteluvr 11-29-2008, 06:21 PM Help!! I have no idea what is happening!! Suddenly my vette is just losing power and shutting off anytime I come to a complete stop! So I have to keep my foot on the gas and brake at the same time to keep her running, any idea what is causing this????
Grapevine 11-29-2008, 06:49 PM Did you wash the engine?
If so, the computer could have been damaged.
I learned this the hard way.
The Detail Dude 11-29-2008, 07:40 PM Probably a bad alternator or battery if I had to guess.
94vetteluvr 11-30-2008, 06:39 AM Probably a bad alternator or battery if I had to guess.I've already replaced the battery and no change, any other ideas, don't think it 's the alternator.
twistedcherokee 11-30-2008, 06:56 AM Is it acting like a manual trans with the clutch out as you come to a stop? Or when cruising it just starts to fall on it's face & if you take your foot off the gas it wants to die? The more info you can give us the better we can help.

rustyspoon 11-30-2008, 07:16 AM My only experience with similar happenings was when I washed it. The car did NOT like that at all! Water got into the engine bay and from there who knows where it went!

Someone else mentioned this too, but I never washed the engine area at all.
blackxpress 12-01-2008, 10:15 AM Stuck EGR valve? I would think that would give you a CEL but maybe not.

Lethal Tendencies 12-01-2008, 06:03 PM auto or stick?
AZJoeD 12-01-2008, 06:11 PM Two things come to mind. A vacum leak, check for loose, disconnected or cracked hoses.
Or you Opti may be on the way out. Espescially if your engine has been wet.

TobyIt's an automatic, when I come to a stop for any reason and take my foot off the gas it dies.
ittlfly 12-03-2008, 03:03 PM Check your fuel pressure at the shreader valve. It sounds like your fuel pump is on its way out.
94vetteluvr 12-04-2008, 06:02 AM Check your fuel pressure at the shreader valve. It sounds like your fuel pump is on its way out.Good idea, I will look into it this afternoon! thanks all for your help!:thumbsup3:
86 vett vert 12-05-2008, 04:38 PM :sheep: if that does not turn up any clues look for a poss vacuum leak :ack2:poss ,driver side vacuum canister up front near headlights,Dave from sportscarsunlimited has suggested that in another thread ,:banghead:
94vetteluvr 12-06-2008, 07:29 AM so something had come up and haven't checked yet for leak, but something else I just realized in this little mystery is that something is draining my battery overnight, which may be why it's shutting down when I stop? I know all lights etc are turned off, but my battery is drained by the morning each day it seems...it's a new battery in there, and I know my alternator is good... why or what could be draining my battery every night?? this is driving me nuts!
2jakes 12-06-2008, 01:28 PM If all other suggestions fail, check fuel pressure
C4 KABOOM 12-06-2008, 01:57 PM I was orginally thinking a saturated fuel filter would cause that same problem but since you said you have a draw on your battery when your car sits over nite that kills it. it is possibile that it could be drawing electric current with ither and after markette radio, remote start, or after markete alarm system. Or maybe you left your dome lite switched on and it killed the battery. The dome lite switch is built rather silly on your dash pannel laying rite along with the regular lites. Rule one of auto reaair is start simple then work your way up. If you have any of those options check there first.Just a shot S.W.A.G in the dark but I hope I could of helped ya there.

Mountainrider 12-06-2008, 06:03 PM If you have a diode go out in your alternator it will cause the battery to drain. First do you have any codes? Second does the engine run good when you are driving? If you are driving and let off the gas will it start missing or die? When you push on the gas will it accelerate good or miss? If the fuel pump or filter are bad it will not run good the faster you turn the engine. Does the engine run good at low speed like 25 mph to 45 mph is this problem only at idle?:blahblah:
