: New Cam and Hand Held Tuner Question?

I have a new Cam heading on its way, this will be the first mod on my 2006 C6. I prefer to do all the work myself and was thinking about picking up one of those hand held tuners like Preditor or Hyperpac. What I wanted to see is if anyone has tune their car with one of these after a cam install? What did you think?

Do these hand helds have the flexibility to do more complicated tunes rather than the cookie cutter ones they come with?

Better money spend would be HP Tuners (http://www.hptuners.com)as it allows extensive tuning capabilities, datalogging, and additional inputs (like an Air Fuel meter) for not just that particular vehicle but most all of the GM lineup.

They have also added Ford tuning/logging. Dodge tuning/logging will be released after the first of the year starting with the Hemi's.

Thanks for the information, I'll keep that in mind. How difficult is it to do this myself? That is the reason why I was looking at the Preditor so that I could learn and do myself.

Which cam are you going with?

Any handheld tuner will only let you adjust so much. HPTuners, like mentioned above, let's you control EVERYTHING in the engine's computer, not just add/subtract X% fuel or idle rpm = X. It's a bit more complicated but gives you full control over your engine to make it run 100% in all driving conditions.

HP is the same that the professional tuners are using also right? So if you don't know what you are doing there isn't a safety net correct?

If you don't know what you're doing with HP Tuners or a handheld you just cut the safety net... :D

Yes pro tuners use HP Tuners but it's not strictly for the pros. If you are thinking about HP Tuners, check out their forum as well. I post over there as EC_Tune.

And just so you know, I'm a bit biased towards HP Tuners as DTS is a beta tester for HP Tuners and I did some work for/with them as well.
