: Turn signal blinks rapidly - suggestions?
flyonthewall 11-18-2008, 04:50 AM While I am always up for some projects while on my toy over the winter, this is not what I had in mind!
The right turn signal in my '99 coupe is blinking rapidly. I looked in the GM Shop manual and it seems to indicate that the blinker relay is incorporated in the 4-way flasher relay.
In order to replace the 4-way flasher relay I need to take apart the dash, but before I go tearing things apart I want to make sure this is going to solve the problem.
Anyone have the same blinker problem that could give advice?:worship:

:iagree:
Check the front and rear while the blinker is on and you'll see the one that's burnt out.

talon90 11-18-2008, 07:35 AM Yep, I have to side with the crowd on this one. The number one cause of a rapid blinker is a filament on one of the bulbs has burned out. It will be on the side that is blinking fast. Don't be fooled by the DRL being on either. Start the car, park it and turn on the blinker. Get out and check the bulbs on the side that is blinking fast and odds are pretty good that you will find one of the bulbs not flashing.
flyonthewall 11-18-2008, 07:44 AM Awsome! Thank you all for the suggestions. Without your help I would have been taking apart the dashboard trying to figure out the problem!
Junkman2008 11-18-2008, 08:38 AM Not to throw a monkey wrench in this but I actually had the same thing happen when one of my bulbs was not making good contact in the socket. It was one of the corroded sockets up front (due to water intrusion). I've had that happen twice, but the other 998 times it was a blown bulb.

Troublemaker
Excellent point really. The damaged socket/water intrusion can and does affect the C5 DRL/turn signals actually pretty often as well. It is usually easiest to diagnose after a couple of bulbs have gone by the wayside in a short period of time.

:iagree: the 3157 socket is prone to water damage. I'm giving serious thought to converting all of mine to 4-conductor slide connectors.
Oh...i use rapid-flash on purpose with all my LEDs. It says I AM CHANGING LANES NOW....Move your butt.

Funny you should say that. The first time I experienced hyper-flash, I thought it was perfect. Fast car, fast blinker!

Good point, some housings get burn through from the DRLs and water gets in... Make sure you check for that and seal it up!

smokinvette2 11-19-2008, 06:42 AM I installed a couple of those non-yellow bulbs up front so in the day you wouldn't see the yellow bulb, but they were not very good and only lasted a few months. One went out and away goes the fast blinking! lol
