i want to rebuild my motor to a 383 stroker or should i go with a 402 or larger ? is there a big difference besides price ? i read some posts by tony mamo and his 383, i like that setup alot. i live in long island ny so i will be going to the vette doctors. any suggestions.

i decided to stroke my block and make a 383. i am also getting trick flow heads, fast 90 and vette doctors custom cam. already has 4.10s, kooks headers and corsa. probably need a clutch soon.:burnout:

Go with an LS3 block & crank setup for 416 CID. :thumbsup3:

With an increase in displacement you can make the same ammount of power with a lot more engine longevity. I have always advocated that whenever you do block work you might as well get as much of a cu in increase as possible. Future mods will get more power and so on. And you can always dial an engine back easier than trying to squeeze that extra 15 hp out of an engine with 40 or 50 less cubes.

I'd go with an LS2 or LS3 set up. My LS6 went pop and I ended up going with a 402.

I learned along time ago that the old saying holds true in every case... "There's no replacement for displacement"! The more cubic inches the better. Besides, if you're already considering going to 383, it's not that much of a stretch or investment to go on up to a 402.

I typically like recommending the motor with the larger bore so you can take advantage of some of the nicer heads out there. So using an LS2/LS3 block and going with say TrickFlow 225's, not only do you have larger displacement, but you have a head that flows substancially more. That's the one down fall of a 383 build, you're still stuck with a 3.90-3.95" bore.
