Would anyone be interested in a BCC-sponsored timed, rally event for next year. A charity fund raiser for disabled vets. Pulling Miatas, Subies, Minis, etc to expand participation (and charity $$$). I have never participated in one, but they look like they would be of interest and we can tie in the local battlefields (Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Spotsylvania Courthouse to Manassas, Antietam, Harper's Ferry, Winchester, New Market and the Shenandoah. I don't know how much work this would be but it probably a lot, so if you like the concept maybe we need to organize a regional event with several clubs participating and each covering their nearby battlefields. Maybe get the local Chevrolet dealers to add piazz, and give them an advertising venue??

Can we evaluate interest at the December meeting?

Think about an alternate with some preparation but ZERO logistics during the event (we can all participate), a Battlefield Tour over two days. participants can tour Saturday, Sunday or both. the get a questionairre to complete with battlefield-specific questions, i.e. At which battlefield, when and how was General Sedgwick killed? Maybe 3 to 5 questions per battlefield. Do the tour at your own pace, do the questionairre, send it in, BCC sends out Certificates like "Honorary Battlefield Scout". Much easier to manage than 1st example. Many more options for participants.

I would also like to do an auto-cross event on the base at dahlgren to support the disabled veterans in the area. The ones I have read about last year (Langley, Little Creek) were great success. That event could also be opened up to the miata club ect. I am going to propose we have a volunteer event committee in the club for these ideas. If you are interested in chairing this let me know.

Bob Tolhurst told me that he would speak to the CO about the autocross. He has an '02 Z06 and would probably run.

That sounds like a great idea! Just make sure it is some time after March. I need to get the car together and painted. By that time the roll bar will be in and all the rest should be ironed out. Now who wants to help get the car off the frame with me???

I can get my hands on a set of Jaws of Life for the body removal if you need some help...just give a call.

Seriously, I will help where I can...

Great idea... but I think it should be a semi-timed event and instead of answering a list of questions, participants would have to look for a predetemined list of items at each location. Each location would have the same number of items and the particpant would be ranked based on the number of items they listed for each location.

Just a thought and I will work up some details for the next meeting and post them here for reading.

Although I do know how to operate wrenches and ratchets I think I'll leave it to you guys. I will gladly pitch in Homemade ribs and potato salad and anything else y'all might want to eat while your working hard.

Was the original question in reference to a timed rally with way stations, or a gimmick rally with questions and a set beginning and ending, maybe with checkpoints as well or a poker run?

I'm a member of the Fredericksburg Miata club, now Roadster club as they are now accepting all roadster type cars. I can ask for interest there, but they are more a wine and cheese type group with an occasional run that nets more than 4 members/cars or so.

I don't know what the club will decide to do. I just offered that suggestion to get a discussion going "off the clock" because our meeting time is limited. We need a followup discussion to sort out objectives and outcomes for different types of events and figure out how they would be managed (who does what) and look at the return (participation, fun and $$$ to charity). Gotta do the math. I think we are working toward several springtime events, so keep tuned to this channel.

Why is money to charity one of the foremost outcomes? I mean, its noble, no issue, but is it possible to have events that contribute to the club itself or is the club's purpose to raise money for charity for each event performed??

Donating money to charity is one of the most important things we (Battlefield Corvette Club) can do.

Having an event as a club and being to contribute the proceeds to a charity is the goal we should be striving to obtain. Whether its collecting Toys For Tots or money to help the disabled veteran's it is all for a good cause. Being able to do that and have some fun doing it is even better.:thumbsup3:

Not to belabor, but is the charter set up that each event must be able to contribute money to charity or are events possible just to have fun with no money being collected, in other words, just going out to have fun...?

I'm getting the impression that if every event is for a monetary reason, no matter how noble, it can really limit the type of events that are doable, or am I incorrect in that opinion? It would concern me since in this economy, participants are concerned about allocating their funds, especially if purchases would be used for a luxury and not for a practical purpose (lunch, gasoline, entrance costs).

As I've never been to a meeting since they are held when I'm out of town, I am asking here as I have no other source of information...and I am a retired officer so I do appreciate veteran issues.

Not all events will be fund raisers. We are planning events that will be just for fun with no expense. The only fund raiser events currently in the planning stages are the Battlefield Cruse and the Vettes for Vets events. We want to give back to our community to share with those that have faithfully given their all to defend our rights and freedoms. It is not to make money for the club. We are in the process of applying for a tax free 501C(3). These two events seem to be events that will attract a large group of participants from outside the area. Members of Williamsburg, Shenandoah Valley and other vette club have expressed an interest in attending.

We do need a events coordinator its a volunteer position and you would need to recruit your own staff to help.

That explains things. Thank you!
