Very cool :p

(CNN) -- A 53-cent drop in gas prices over the last two weeks has set another record, and the publisher of a national survey predicted Sunday that prices will continue to decline -- but at a slower pace.

The average price of self-serve, unleaded gas in the United States as of Friday was $2.78 a gallon, compared to $3.31 on October 10, said Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the nationwide Lundberg Survey.

The 35-cent price reduction measured on the 10th, which brought the average price to $3.31, was the largest drop in the six-decade history of the survey, she said.

The all-time high average was $4.11, set on July 11, according to Lundberg, and prices have been dropping ever since.

She attributed the price reductions to crude prices and demand.

Gas was $1.81 here yesterday. Good thing I'm not a betting man, cause I would have bet the farm that I would never see gas below $2.00 back only 60 days ago. I read that if oil fell below $60 a barrel, that some nations (Venezuela for one) could not sustain their economies. With oil now in the low $50 range, sure would like to see some of those countries die on the vine!

I live about 20 miles SW of Houston, Texas.
Regular gas is $1.78 there.
My cousin lives about 35 miles south of me and he said regular gas in his city is down to $1.68.
COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1998 regular gas was $1.00 a gallon average.

Personally I think the bloated "extreme" rise in fuel cost for the consumers is what started this financial crisis.
Think about it......Gas prices went out of sight about 10-12 months ago, and soon to follow was the mortgage crash.
I would be willing to bet that a lot of people were paying as much for fuel every month as they were for their mortgages. Something had to give...............And it did!!
The experts blame the mortgage crisis on the ARM`s (adjustable rate motgage). Ok, so your rate goes up and your mortgage payment goes up a couple hundred. What about people`s fuel bill going up from say $400 a month to $900!!
And EVERYTHING is effected by the cost of fuel.
Just my 2 cents.
