I need to replace the heater core in my 1985 Corvette. According to the Hemmings book you take out the instrument bezel first? This seems odd since the core should be on the passenger side. Anybody have any thought or experience on this subject? :)

The heater core replacement on early C4 is no easy task and should be left for experanced Corvette owners only. The repair runs about $600.00 and up.

I agree! Not a job for the unexperienced!

very true. I replaced mine and found that by the time you remove the complete dash and all the wiring on the right side,It's best to take pictures as you go along. Also keep some sort of order to the screws you take out

Me being me, since I live in Florida and it doesn't get too awfully cold. I would just go ahead and bypass my heatercore. Now if you have the time and money and your C4 isn't your daily driver, I'd say dig in.

The book is correct. Listen to what it says. You need to remove the dash pad and to do that, you have to remove the bezel. Also, I HIGHLY recommend removing the passengers seat and vacuuming the passengers side thoroughly; you're going to be spending a lot of time on your back in the passenger's foot well...may as well make it as comfortable as possible. The job sucks. One of the more upleasant jobs that I've done in my 15+ years of wrenching.

:iagree:
The bezel has to be removed on the left side to access all the dash pad screws, i agree it seems strange, but that is correct.
Race on!!!
