I'm a new owner of an 2004 Corvette Convertible. I have a problem that the Dealership is unable to diagnose. I have a LOUD clunking or banging noise, it always comes from the drivers side. At times it seems to emanate from the left side, at other times it seems to come from under the drivers seat or in the tunnel between the seats. At this time I don't know if it's something in the suspension, or possibly something with the seat itself. Has anybody experienced this problem or know what the issue may be with this noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David O

David, first off welcome to the site!! Now when does this noise occure? When driving slow, fast, when turning, putting in gear or out? If you could give a few more details that would be great!!!

At first it only happened when driving, and I thought I could duplicate the problem for the dealership, so they could experience the problem as I do. But their seems to be no rhyme or reason to the noise when it occurs. It can happen during straight line braking or in a turn at low speeds. At first I thought it only happened when the chaise was torqued somewhat, such as after driving into a roadway after leaving a parking lot and driving over a small dip. This seamed to make sense until I was in my vehicle, engine running, in park and I experienced the same noise. My son was driving the car last night and he thought in was coming from the seat itself, so I thought it may be an issue with the motors that control the seat adjustments. At this time I'm not sure what it could be because the noise seems to move about the car, did I mention that you not only here this noise but feel it. If I did not know any better I would say at times it 's like the vehicle is being hit with a hammer from the underside !!!! Thanks for any help Greg. David O

Does your seat move fore and aft on it's own accord when accelerating or braking? It could be an extreme case of the old rocking seat problem...

I wonder if the exhaust is hitting up against the tunnel or somewhere else?

You should check under your car, there might be a little ford guy under there pounding with his little hammer.

:iagree:
I would check out the exhaust. If the h-pipe is cracked at the H or one of it's mounts is broken I can imagine a lot of noise/clunks.
Does the noise change or travel based on whether the car is warmed up?
