Heres my problem on this car: the cooling fans don't come on when they should. When I disconnect the fan switch from the connector on the engine, the fans come on. The "service engine soon" light will come on when I do this.

I have changed the fan switch with the same outcome. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated

The switch maybe bad.You can purchase a fan switch with a lower temp setting.

I just replaced the switch and same results? Is it possible the new switch is bad? Thanks LT

The switch you replaced ,where is it located? Are fan relays working properly. They are located on the drivers side upper radiator support. Also you have the dual fan setup. Does the second fan turn on when you turn on the A/C?

Heres the test. Use your service manual to locate the fan switch. disconnect the wire and press it up against a ground. If the fans come on, then there are three outcomes.
1 bad switch (replace)
2 switch not grounding to block properly (dont use teflon tape on sensors/switches, they use the engine block for a ground and teflon prevents that.) ive done this lol
3 engine block ground broken (unlikely but check all your block grounds anyway)

If fans do not come on.....
1 wire from switch to relay broken (try grounding out the wire where it connects to the relay)
2 relay bad (locate your fuel pump relay and swap them. then ground your fan switch wire. If fans come on then relay is bad.
3 Relay ground bad (locate the pin in the relay connector that is the ground. connect a test probe to a 12v positive source. when you touch the ground pin with the test probe the light should come on. If not check all harness grounds.

The other option is the wiring between the relay/fan.
since you already strapped the relay and the fans came on we know this is good.

Man I fought this exact battle on my camaro and my vette. Hope this helps

there is another relay in the front of the car near the driver headlight. It is under a cover 2 screws take it off. Check that relay as well. It is the bottom one. (there are 4 there) The wire from your fan switch is the green / white stripe one going into the bottom relay. I need to replace that one myself. Same issue for me as well.
