In case anyone who has a vette doesn't know, do not attempt to jack your vette up for any reason including but not limited to, changing the tires, changing a tire, ANYTHING and then open a door, Because you can mess up your door springs and literally cause your door to peel off the frame. Take your vette to the dealer for stuff like this or you could void your warranty. Take it from someone who knows.

I road race my car and routinely jack the car up to change tires and brake pads. There's no problem jacking the car if it's done correctly.
The proper way is to use jacking pucks which insert in pre-drilled OEM holes cut into the frame rails. See link for one of many folks who sell. Step 2 is to get a good floor jack. I use a lightweight 1.5 ton jack to go to and from track. That's sufficient to lift up one side of the car for changing tires.

The door apparently sprung and the door skin was separating from the rest of the car right below the window as the black trim next to the window and door broke also. Every time I opened my car door you could see it separate. Took it to the dealer and got it fixed but was told that if you don't jack your vette up a certain way and if you open the door you will most likely spring your door. I don't know if this makes sense to you or not, you could ask someone who knows more about vettes than I do (all I do is drive) and I am just going by what I was told. We had jacked up the vette and had each wheel on stands and was getting new tires put on the wheels and supposedly when my husband opened the car door, it sprung. Perhaps an expert my comment here because there is a chance that someone fed me a big line.
