i am new to the site and have always loved corvettes. i have a 84 coupe that i just purchased with 58k original miles. i love it but when i got it the hood latch on the pass. side would only release w/someone pulling on it. now it won't release at all. i have tried to manually pull the release cable from the handle side with no luck. i have also given that sides bumper a few turns to relieve the tension on the hood. i am frustrated and need to check the oil. is there a way to access the latch from the underside. the cable is broken or frozen. what should i do? thanks in advance

You will need a hood opening tool. It can be purchased at Corvette central for $21.95. The part # is 464060. After you get the hood open you may have to replace the hood opening cable. Then you need to keep the latches greased to insure proper movement of the latch. That should give you a good long lifespan of the cable.Good Luck

I got the tool locally and after 10 min. of fishing and teaching myself how to use the tool i got her open. It was a broken clip at the end of the cable. Thank you so much for your help! I do have a couple more ? 's. I have the 4+3 trans in my car and every once in a while when the overdrive is on it will cycle on and off like it is confused. It is an intermittent issue but still irritating. The other small thing w/ the car is the digital gauge cluster. The tach works and then the next time you start it it doesn't. It only comes to life when i turn off the car then restart it. Any assistance you can give me would be awesome.

The tach wire has a filter in-line to filter out noise.I read that these can sometimes go bad. It sounds more like a tach wire problem and not a problem with the gauge cluster. The OD unit has a wire harness that goes into the side of the trans. Look there for any loose or broken/burned wires.Good Luck

Well my hood and many many other vettes have done the same, not opened. Once you get it open, good luck finding parts to fix it. They are there, just hard to find.
Anyways, I did what many people did and rigged a couple of releases under the hood. They go from the latch to under the wipers. You can use cable or heavy duty fishing line. You loop it at the latch, then put a hole through the rubber by the wipers, and loop it to where you can reach it to pull it to open the hood.
As soon as Photobucket wakes up, I will post photos
