Tire size upgrade, will they fit?

I'm getting ready to get new tires for my 77. I have 225 70's on the stock rally wheels now. I would like to put 255 60's on, but I'm concerned with clearance issues in the front wheel wells. I have thought about staggering 255 60's in the rear, and 245 60's in the front, but I don't want a high in the back, and low in the front look. Has anybody used 225 70 in the front, and 255 60' in the rear? Please give me your input.

Maybe this will help. Because I don't understand a 245 being shorter than a 255

The 245 60 is .47" shorter than a 255 60

On my '75. I had 265/50/15 on all 4 corners without issue

That must have been a sight for sore eyes, but I've been reading conflicting comments about 255's rubbing on front fenders, or the e brake bracket in the rear. Did you modify anything for 265 50's to fit?

I'm assuming that is the car with the 265's on it. That sure looks nice, and sits nice also. The 265 is almost 2" shorter (diameter) than the 225 which explains why it fits. Did you change your driven gear in the tranny? At 70 your actual speed would be about 65 mph.

When I bought the vette it came with those tires. I never checked the speedo accuracy. I switched to 17" wheels and tires and checked my speedo at that time with GPS.

Well, no more talk. I took action and put Cooper Cobra 255 60's on the stock rims, and no damn rubbing, or clearance issues. The car also handles better, and is more responsive than with the 225 70's.
