Finally I am a Corvette owner

Well it has finally come to pass, after years of wanting to become a Corvette owner, the one that got away came back to become mine. No not a C5/C6 but a nice first Corvette. A 1986 C4 with 73K mile convertible. It was owned by a gentleman who loved the car but passed away 2 years ago, it has sat for this long but with new battery, cleaning out gas filters etc it started right up and is mine.
The widow could have sold it for more money but she and her daughters saw in me the look their Dad had when he was near the car and offered it to me for a great price.
I am fortunate and thankful,I plan to give it a good cleaning in and out, replace all filters, change fluids and enjoy it.
Thanks to all the Smoking Vette members who offered me advice and guidance over the past year. At 67 years old this ole Vietnam [ATTACH]00A0A_9mUn86HhGX4_1200x900.jpg

Car has 73K miles, has sat for almost 2 years since the death of owner, was started a few times and parked in the garage, drove by a potential buyer a day before I bought her. Top is in great shape, rear window a bit foggy and I need to find a good cleaner for the plastic window. small repaired place on drivers seat & the other is good, carpet great, no sign of rain or water leakage in interior, dash is bright and all gauges work, it has sport seats and a couple of the bolster buttons do not work but that is a small thing to me anyway, the radio is an after market and I might replace it, the A/C needs charging, tires 90%, all belts good, after market exhaust............. when I bought it I immediately put in a 1/2 can of Sea foam and 1/2 tank of high test gas and drove it about 20 miles...... it seemed to not want to start the next time as in not getting gas.............it did start after about 20 seconds of turning and showed a rich gas smoke like it was flooded..........I am taking it to a great mechanic next week because I am under the impression there was water, sludge, grime, in the gas or clogging filters so he will start at the front and work his way back checking fuel pressure-replacing filters-cleaning tank.......if that doesn't correct the issue then go from there to injectors....I drove it once before buying and started it numerous times and had no issues so I am thinking when the guy drove it he didn't put any new gas in it and it was dirty and clogged filters....plus it was strong and fast when I drove it a short distance prior to him....

Sooooo am I in the right area or do you have any suggestions I might look at also??????????

It is an 86, not a newer C5 C6 but it is my first one after wanting one for 30 years, it is mine, it is nice looking, it sounds great, I am now a Corvette owner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the 86. Bought mine in 2013 after wanting one and missing several in the 60 years I'd wanted one. It needs a few fixes but nothing that keeps me from enjoying it. Hope it lives up to your expectations, mine sure has.

Thanks, you sound a lot like me, always wanting a Corvette but something always took it away.

Well she is mine now, all I need to do is get the starting issue mended and it will be great I am sure. It had sat for almost two years with only an occasional start until the battery died and then I got that fixed when I found out about the car..............haven't driven it maybe 75 miles becausef I figured the filters/the gas itself/ the lines was moisture, crud, grime laden ...... Will turn over fine but not catch, then after a 20 second or so attempt it'll start....seems like it isn't getting gas to me..... Friend looked at it and loved the car and thinks what I want to do tomorrow will cure the problem. Mechanic is to start at the front, check fuel pressure and work his way back replacing filter, blowing out lines etc. Then good high test, fuel stabilizer and hopefully drive it many miles.... sound like a plan to you??????
