High mileage??????

I WANTED A C5 BUT DUE TO A FAMILY ADDITION ( BEAUTIFUL 6 YO GRAND DAUGHTER) I AM HAVING TO DOWN GRADE TO A C4 DUE TO $$$$$$$$ FOR LAWYERS ISSUES BUTTTTTTT C5 OWNERS ARE TELLING ME TO LOOK FOR A HIGH MILEAGE C5......... OKAY WHAT IS THE MILEAGE LIMITS YOU WOULD CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A C5??????????..... I HAVE SEEN A FEW WITH OVER 100K REASONABLE PRICED AND A FEW WITH 184k MILES, 150k ON ONE AND EVEN ONE WITH 204k (LOOKED SHOWROOM CONDITION) WHEN DO THE MILES START EATING THE CAR ALIVE????

I KNOW A STUPID QUESTION BUT THIS WILL BE MY ONE AND ONLY CORVETTE AT 67 YOA, USED TO DO 2-3 DAY TRIPS WITH WIFE AND ME.

NOT A MECHANIC BUT CAN DO SMALL STUFF.

I FIND LOW (50k) MILES ON C4'S AND ARE REASONABLE BUT THE AGE OF THE CAR AND DIFFERENCE IN COMFORT FOR THE WIFE'S BUTT.....THE TRADE OFFS ARE TREMENDOUS I KNOW BUT I VALUE YOUR OPINIONS......

Depends on the maintenance records. I would figure out what you can afford to spend and get the best one you can. 125,000 miles is not real high in my opinion.

Do you know how to pull the dash DIC codes?

I agree. A well maintained C5 can easy get 250K .. the biggest issue these cars have is not mechanical, but instead is electronics.. ABS Trac modules etc .... The difference in a C4 and a C5 is very apparent with a test drive . And NO , I m not knocking C4s .. The C5s are just more advanced , as the C6 is over the C5 .. You can buy nice C5s here for $10K-$15K depending on year

Don't own a Corvette yet but have seen on this and the Corvette Forum the techniques used to pull those codes. Not much on either that you can not find.... Gong to look at a 1986 coupe today, 3 owners, 79K miles, AT, two tone silver, owner had a stroke last year and needs to sell, no accidents, clean title, said it needs some interior work but the photos show none so we'll see, wants $5800

I owned 2 C4's and 2 C5's and I can tell you that getting in and out of a C4 is a lot more difficult than the C5. So I would definitely keep that in mind.

Wellllll that was a bust...86 with 79k miles and it looked like 179k miles.......$5800, needed all weather stripping on entire car, both eats torn to shreds, carpet nasty, hood release cable broken, aftermarket stereo didn't work, finally got it released, started engine it clicked so loud even my wife gave me a leer, smoke poured from both value cover gaskets, one hood support, rear hatch struts worn out, and the list went on and on.....thank you for your time sir!!!!!
Gotta keep on looking....

Thanks for your input... the C5 was my original choice and target until we got the custody of the grand daughter in November 2015 so that $$$$$$$$ went to lawyers. I had to alter my choices and the C4 was in my now price and maintenance range....I am finding even with these limitations I am picky and the nice ones are as high as a C5. Found nice 93 Black with Silver leather coupe, 54K miles no issues at all with it, inspected/examined by mechanic/new tires/belts/buffed except it has a NY Rebuilt title....did a Carfax and the report has no accident/air bag deployment/odometer/structural damage issues BUT it shows that when sold in NY in 2000 a Salvage/Rebuilt title was attached and Carfax notes NY DMV a notation it was "issued in ERROR and recommended to be corrected" BUT never was corrected..... I am going to Virginia DMV to do a vehicle history on the car an see if the title can be corrected before I go further on it. Worth a few bucks to be sure.

I have no problem with buying a car with a rebuilt title. Just keep in mind it could very difficult to sell.

I went to DMV and pulled a title history on the 1993 I found, was bought in NJ had 3 owner2 thru 2000, last sold to owner in NY kept to 1998 sold owner in NY kept to 2000 (no accidents reported or airbag deployment posted) then it was issued a salvage title which note "was issued in error and later corrected". kept thru 2002 sold to owner and title issued as Rebuilt (still no references to stolen/accident/air bag etc), sold to owner in Pa in 2006 traded to dealer in Va Beach where the next bought it in off Ebay in 2011 but he passed away in 2014, car sat for a year after he passed and wife then sold it in 2015 to present owner who said he researched it and found it i was stolen and recovered within 1 week in NY where the title was converted to Salvage, parts damaged were replaced and then it got a Rebuilt title.

The Va DMV report sucks for what all it "Didn't say"... I am tempted to try another report on the car to see if any damage was done to the car because it looks and sounds so damn good.....quiet motor with a rumble out back, no issues except the cruise is inoperable / passenger hand strap has been pulled loose, passenger seat motor grinds a bit in the forward-back motion=== all weather seals are good, doors tight, aligned, engine clean (not pressure washed due to opti spark), interior except one small scuff on drivers exit area, all instruments/ac/stereo speakers work, paint is great (black with gray interior) owner added new front and rear emblems, new tires and serpentine belt. Sooooooooooooooo you can see the "pickle" I am in, haven't seen many at all in this shape for $6000 with 54K miles and is in as good a condition......

The Rebuilt title just concerns me for resale much later from now....... I have looked at about10 and everyone has alot of issues and I have a problem with used car dealers, they get them because the previous owners traded for SOME reason. Majority of private sellers have a good reason to sell also... at 67 this is my one time to buy my bucket list Corvette so I do not want to screw it up. I want to enjoy and drive it not work on it.... screwed up old man ain't I?
