Where's Fatguy?

Whatever happened to Fatguy? Is he still running those 12.04 @ 117 mph all day long?

I ordered a new L-88 hood from Eckler's on Friday and now I'm waiting to get a tracking number from the manufacturer. At $1520 plus shipping they're not cheap but I'm sure it'll be a lot better quality than the piece of crap I bought 6 years ago. I made the big mistake of buying the cheapest L-88 hood I could find on the internet and I got what I paid for; cheap. After I receive my new hood I'll have to convert it to ram air and paint it. In the meantime I'll continue running my crappy hood so my '71 doesn't look like a taco wagon.

Wrong Pitman Arm

When Fatguy removed his power steering pump and ram to convert it to manual steering he failed to realize the manual steering cars used a shorter pitman arm that produces more leverage than the power steering pitman arm.. Wilcox stocks the manual pitman arms so they're readily available. So to convert to manual steering the tie rod ends have to go into the outer spindle holes AND it requires the shorter manual steering pitman arm.

I e-mailed the hood manufacturer a few days ago; asking about the status of my new L-88 hood and they told me it'll ship around the end of May. So I have another month of waiting. I sure hope it's a better fitting hood than this piece of crap I have now. And then once it arrives I'll have to convert it to RAM AIR like my present hood. The nice thing about a true RAM AIR hood is the fact the engine will be breathing ambient air which is about 100 degrees cooler than under hood air.

a shorter pitman arm gives you LESS leverage

The last post I read from him (paraphrased) was that he got pissed here with some people and said he was not coming back. I can say He is doing well and so is son. I have moved to Hawaii and got to meet him. Is a hellava guy! Great sense of humor and will to give you the shirt off his back if it were to help you. Hope this answers the question.
