Check Engine Light Is On

When I started the car yesterday morning I had a check engine light stay on. The car is running great with no problems at all. I called On-Star to run a diagnostic check and they found that my gas cap was not on all the way. I have noticed when I get gas that the cap seems to go on very easy, but it does click. So I purchased a new cap from the dealer and put it on and it does seem to seal better, but the light is still on. Will this light go off after a while or could it be something else.

If it did indeed have a evap leak code and the gas cap was bad, yes after a couple drives the light will go off on its own.

You can expedite it by going to a place like AutoZone, or your dealer to clear the code.

Or, you can disconnect the neg battery cable. When you reconnect, the code will be gone.

But if you do, don't forget to re-index your windows.

Also had the dreaded defective gas cap. Was replaced under warranty during an oil change. You might want to check out if you should have been covered.

Great visual!

I saw your response and was thinking this guy didn't answer the question, and was typing up a response: "The seal" Then it dawned on me about your post.

The new cap only cost me $15.00 at the dealer, but after two days of driving the check engine light is still on. The car is still running great, so Iam just waiting it out to see if it goes out on its own.
