I always wondered the same thing here and thought it might have been for the HUD since my car doesn't have one.

The black box on the top right corner of the windshield is the antenna for the Onstar system.

It's a secret recording device used by the government to track your ever move LMAO!!! Just joking it's for Onstar. I do recall being at a Corvette cruise and there was a guy with a 2005, that seriously thought it was a tracking device used by the government.

That antenna is that big? Seems like a eye sore. Is there a way to get a smaller one?

Well in a way it is.They have the ability now to turn off your car if the cops are chasing you! and it's a tracking device per say and can read your cars vitals..hence the monthly diagnostic reports.
