I have recently had my 86 L98 rebuilt but cannot get it to idle in traffic. The rebuild consisted of boring .020 over, new flat top pistons, Mild cam 450L/2900, HD valve springs on late aluminum heads. It has a new BKK 52mm throttle body. It has P315/35-17 zr1 tires and stock rear end gears. The question is could the stock torque converter be to small to keep a good idle?
Thanks 4 answering
I have had this engine in a shop and they have installed a new prom and did the tune. I keep getting it back with a major stall condition. RPM's just fall off when at a light. 500 rpm at idle is the best they can do they say but even then it will fall to 0.
I did increase the idle up to 900/1000 RPM at the throttle body and it seems to have had an effect. It will stammer while in gear and quit when cold but will restart promptly. It will idle good when out of gear but when in gear it becomes a little erratic.
