Mobil 1 or Amzoil, which is the best?

Does anyone know about Amzoil or Mobil 1? Which is the best and why......... Let me rephrase my question, does anyone know anything about Amzoil, Mobil 1, or Royal Purple?

Both are good choices.. Amsoil was the first synthetic, Mobil One has been the factory fill for Corvette for more than a decade. I use Mobil One Extended Performance in everything I own..for about 30 years.. have had several engines go near 300,000 miles with almost no oil consumption or failures ..

I'll skip the debate on quality. I've seen threads like that go on for pages with back and forth at other car sites. I use Mobil 1 as the vette's oil life meter is based upon that and I change the oil when it gets in the 20% range.

I believe that is not quite correct. I believe that the oil life algorithm is based on the GM4718M spec. and not on any specific brand of lubricant. And, the GM dexos1 specification supersedes LL-A-025, 6094M and 4718M specifications

Don't know if using another brand of oil will void the new car warranty, but I will stick with the man. rec.

You are probably correct. While I believe they used Mobil 1 in the development of the spec (i.e. actual testing), I don't know for certain.

Mobil 1 is certified to meet the spec as are several other brands. Using Mobil 1 ensures the oil meets the spec used in the oil life monitor.

Excluding racing, I'd wager that any major brand of regular oil and filter changed every 5k miles would be sufficient to see 200k miles out of the motor. There's been a lot of improvement in the last 30 yrs.

It will not void the warranty unless the oil itself contributed to the failure. Put tranny fluid in the crank case and GM will probably be on the phone with you if the motor needed rings or an oil pump. Other than that any major brand changed at reasonable intervals will keep the warranty intact.

A federal law called the Magnuson-Moss Act (1975) prevents original equipment manufacturers from putting conditions on vehicle warranties attached to any product or service identified by brand, trade or corporate name, unless the manufacturer provides that product or service free of charge. As long as that lubricant meets the spec provided by the manufacturer, they must honor the warrantee.
