Capstone Turbine Powered Hybrid-Electric GTM on Display December 4-13
Question: What is a microturbine range-extended electric powered supercar?
Answer: It all began when FFR customer Richard Hilleman (Chief Creative Director at EA – Electronic Arts) began building his GTM a year and a half ago. Richard wanted to build an electric powered vehicle with looks and performance of a modern supercar. The way in which he went about accomplishing this goal was to build a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) using a GTM and an unconventional turbine-electric powertrain. The Capstone C-30 Turbine provides electric charge to extend the primary batteries.
When the executives at Capstone saw Richard’s car, they decided to get involved in the project and now the car is close to completion and being shown at the LA Auto Show from December 4-13. The Capstone guys are calling the car the Capstone CMT-380 and it will be accompanied by another FFR GTM (GM LS-powered) owned by FFR customer Jud Shutts whose car was displayed prominently at the 2009 SEMA Show.
